I created this dress as a celebration of freed womanhood. I was inspired by ballet, as the dancers wear feminine flowy dresses that are flattering but not sexualized, as they are defined by their joyful and graceful dance. Working with a secondhand deconstructed ballet skirt, I added layers of tulle to create this dress. to embody childhood nostalgia, crafted from layers of soft, flowing white tulle that dance with every movement. Its round silhouette exudes a sense of playfulness, inviting the wearer to embrace the joy and freedom often found in youth. As I child I was a ballet dancer, and this dress brought me back to a blissful time where expressing your body brought up no insecurity or second thoughts. This piece serves as a heartfelt reminder for young women to reconnect with their inner child and to celebrate the general joys of life, encouraging them to take life less seriously under the pressures of adulthood. Stripping away any tight form, the dress loses sexuality, letting a woman be defined by more than her body. This dress allowed me to express a celebration of self-love and the importance of nurturing one's playful spirit.
